Principal's Message:

Welcome to West Central High School.  We are part of a consolidated school district that includes students in Hartford, Humboldt, Wall Lake Area, and Ellis.  Our high school is located in Hartford.  This year's enrollment is 408 students in grades 9-12.  We typically average about 100-110 students per grade.

WCHS operates on a Traditional Schedule - so students are able to take 7 classes which meet daily with Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) and a Student Responsibility Block (SRB) built in to most daily schedules.  Students are given the opportunity to take a wide variety of classes over the course of four years.  Students receive quality instruction in their Core Classes (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies) including AP and Honors.  CTE offerings include Industrial Tech, Agriculture, Business, FACS, and Computers.  A variety of music, physical ed, art, and drama courses are also offered.

Junior and Senior students at WCHS are given the opportunity to take Dual Credit courses through the South Dakota Regental College System.  Students earn both high school and college credit.  SD Virtual High School, Credit Recovery, and Supervised Learning are also offered to reach students at all levels of academic achievement.  West Central students consistently rank above the State average in ACT (2016 average=22.83), and students explore unlimited opportunities in college, vo-tech, career, and military.  West Central ranks as one of the top schools in South Dakota for College and Career Readiness.

As part of the 1:1 technology initiative at West Central, students at the high school are assigned an Apple MacBook Air that is theirs to use responsibly for four years.  Teachers offer up-to-date curriculum through textbooks, on-line, and hands-on.  WCHS has been named an Apple Distinguished School for the past 5 years, and the West Central School District was recently named an Apple Distinguished Program - recognized for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence.
