Principal's Message:

On behalf of the staff at West Central Middle School, welcome to our web page.  Our school building was completed in 2007 - we’re happy to call this place home!  We have a great school at WCMS, and that can be attributed to a great staff, great parents, and of course, the VERY BEST middle school students around.  As we work with our students, we believe it is our task to help them to develop into responsible, respectful young adults.  In order to help our students grow, we commit to challenging our students to go beyond rote memorization of facts to learn how to think well.  We challenge our students to develop leadership skills that not only have an impact on our school, but also our community and our world.  We will help our students grow in their ability to be empathetic towards others.  Our aim is to help our students grow into well-rounded young adults.

Our school operates on an alternating block schedule.  Our school’s academic program includes core classes of Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and Language Arts at each grade level.  These core classes meet every other day for the year.  Students learn computer skills in our technology courses that meet every other day.  Our students also have the opportunity to learn in an exploratory rotation that is unique to each grade level.  These classes include Art, Family and Consumer Sciences, Robotics, Health and others.  Each exploratory course meets every day for one quarter.  Students have opportunity to develop physical skills in PE classes that meet every other day.  All of our students participate in vocal or instrumental music as well.  We believe that by offering a variety of coursework to our students, we will provide opportunities to meet the needs of each of our students.

After school, our students have the opportunity to develop their skills through a variety of activity choices.  Our seventh and eighth grade students have the opportunity to participate in our interscholastic athletics programs that include football, volleyball, cross-country, basketball, wrestling, dance, cheer, golf and track.  All middle school students are able to participate in oral interp, dramatic productions, Destination Imagination, quiz bowl, student council and improv.
