The West Central School District was named one of the Best Communities for Music Education - again! According to the website, we've received it a South Dakota school record 10 times! We are 1 of 1,008 districts in the nation to receive the award and 1 of 2 in South Dakota (Sioux Falls).

This is an ongoing testament to our administration, music educators, students, and community members for their unwavering support for music education and the performing arts.

West Central Alumnus and great Josh Mueller is back again this summer, providing a basketball camp here at West Central. Please see the attached camp flyer.

West Central has once again been named a "Best Community for Music Education" by the NAMM Foundation. We have received this award a record setting 10 times, more than any other district in South Dakota. We were one of only two districts awarded this honor this year. Congratulations to our music teachers, our students, our dedicated parents, and our supportive community!

West Central HS Band and Choir attended the Region II Large Group Contest for small schools held in Harrisburg. WC Band received 2 Superior ratings and 1 Above Average rating. WC Choir also received 2 Superior ratings and 1 Above by Average rating. Congrats to both groups! Go Trojans!

The West Central Residential Construction class will be auctioning off its house on June 15th. There are two open house dates; please see the flyer for details.

April 20-24, 2026 is Public School Volunteer Week! This annual event recognizes the impact parents, caregivers, and community members have on student learning and school culture. Humboldt Elementary would like to thank some of our volunteers this year for their weekly contributions in helping our students and staff. Pictured are: Therese Ahrendt, Joyce Luke and Jan Nordlund.

The Hartford Senior Citizens generously donated funds to add pictures around the school to celebrate our students. Thank you Hartford Senior Citizens!

The Minnehaha School Resource Officer/Special Olympics polar plunge is back. Deputy Kommes is leading all the Minnehaha County school resource officers but it's close. If you feel inclined, please support Deputy Kommes so we can win again this year and, more importantly, support Special Olympics of South Dakota.

Due to the weather forecast, the start time for the varsity softball game at Dell Rapids on Thursday, April 9th, has been moved up from 5:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. JV is scheduled to follow.
