Some of our West Central Elementary students from both Hartford and Humboldt Elementary recently put their creativity and gratitude to work by making thank-you cards for veterans who will be traveling on the next Honor Flight!

We are thankful to our students and staff for taking the time to create these cards to help recognize and honor the veterans who have served our country. Their thoughtful words are sure to bring a smile to the veterans receiving them! 🇺🇸❤️

The West Central School District will be hosting our Early Childhood screening tomorrow, Thursday, September 10th. Please see the link for details. There are still a couple of time slots available.

Students participating in Clay Shooting Sports must complete the South Dakota Hunt Safe Certification Program prior to registration deadlines.  This safety program takes time and you must sign up thru the SDGFP.gov.  The deadline for Clay Shooting Sports Fall Season has passed.   If you are interested in the Spring Clay Shooting Season do not wait to get SD HUNT Safe Certification!

We are off to a great start at Humboldt Elementary!

It’s good to be fully staffed and have students filling the hallways again. We are so grateful for the amazing people who make good things happen at Humboldt Elementary every day. It takes all of us working together to create a place where kids can learn, grow, and belong.

🌱 One Word. A Year of Growth. 🌱

Miss Larson’s 5th grade students at Humboldt Elementary each chose one word representing an area where they want to grow this year. Throughout the year, they’ll revisit their word through journaling—reflecting on their progress, celebrating what’s going well, and thinking about what they can continue to improve.

What a meaningful way to encourage students to set goals, reflect, and take ownership of their own growth.

We can’t wait to see where their words take them this year! 💙

Boost Up is in full swing in the Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten wing at Hartford Elementary! We are so grateful to be using some of our new equipment from the West Central Education Foundation grant.  -- Mrs. Petersen, Junior Kindergarten Teacher

Registration is open for West Central Fall Clay Shooting Sports Fall Season.  Registration closes Sept 7th.  Students/guardians interested joining the team are encouraged to reach out to Coach Peterson at jeff.peterson@k12.sd.us for details.  There is also a Spring Season.  Registration and information regarding that season will be communicated in March. 

The 2026-2027 school year is up and running. West Central is looking to fill the following fall activity positions.
